Elphinstone

It is one of the most well-known diving spots in the Red Sea - if not the best-known one. This diving spot is fascinating for every diver and this for a good reason. So it is no surprise that the Elphinstone reef belongs to one of the most famous ones.

This reef is a shoal in the Red Sea, it is situated way ahead of the shore and it falls 200 meters deep. It takes 2 hours (depending on the weather) to get there by boat starting from the harbour in Marsa Alam.

This diving spot offers almost everything a diver's heart desires. It is not only famous for its beautiful coral reef but also for being able to see whitetip sharks, e.g. hammerhead sharks or oceanic whitetip sharks (Longimanus). Unfortunately there is no guarantee of coming across such a shark but there is the possibility of seeing one in a short distance when ending your dive is very high.

In order to take part in this trip it is necessary to prove 50 dives in the log (book) (in writing). As the current can be very strong it is necessary to be a good diver and to be well experienced in order to grant safety.

The reef is the home of a huge variety of fish and it is covered nicely with all kinds of corals. Napoleons, turtles, moray eels and barracudas can be seen there regularly.
